Two years ago, when you would’ve asked me what I thought of the city I’ve lived in for half my life, I would’ve retorted, “Small, cold and utterly boring.”
Sure it may not have the arrogant hustle and bustle of NYC, which was my fave city for two years running, but Melbourne still has an exquisite vibe to it.
Sure, it may not have dirty water hot dogs, smelly air vents spilling out onto the streets and half naked Abercrombie and Fitch staff members at 5th Avenue but Melbourne still has its quirks.
Melbourne is like a small sleeping giant taking its sweet time to wake up and be noticed. It’s a friendly giant at that – more like Hagrid than Jack and the Beanstalk variety if you need a comparison – and the relaxed non-aggressive people who live in it is the result of a great city culture. It probably doesn’t hurt that Melbourne has been constantly placed in the world’s Most Liveable City list year after year, based on rankings that ranged from social, economic and environmental factors.

To me personally, Melbourne is:
A Bollywood reporter standing by the Princess Bridge waiting for the clouds to clear so that they can start filming.
A dumpling soup from the bowels of Chinatown on cold days.
A good gelati from Lygon Street on freakishly hot days.
A cardigan tucked away inside a girl’s handbag ready to be whipped out in a second.
A man confidently wearing a bright green suit amongst the sea of grays and blacks during peak hour.
The city is bursting with secrets that I know will benefit everyone looking for some awesome cheap eats, things to do and events in and around the CBD.
SecretMelbourne.com.au will cover that, and also follow the old format of my predecessor sharing thoughts and experiences as a Melbournian.
